A good line I heard once is:
“They’re not as bad as people say they are”.
In this way you are being polite, positive, but putting your own company slightly above them by the way you phrase the sentence.
I’l be careful with that James, and I don’t think its being polite at all. It’s backhanded and passive aggressive. You are planting a seed that implies you think the competitor is bad, which can backfire.
