As sellers, we need to be protectors and promoters of our own personal brand, as well as the brand of the company that we work for that we represent.
We need to be communicating unique value in every interaction we have with the customer.
We need to be positioning ourselves differently in every meeting, every call, every social media post, every email that we send out to our customer.
And that uniqueness and the protection of our unique brand, both personally and professionally, is important because you are all in competitive industries.
In fact, some of you are in pure commodity type businesses.
And the reason why promoting and protecting our unique brand is so important that every interaction is you have to stand out from the competition, right? The last thing we want is for the customer to commoditize us.
They might be commoditize your product or maybe your product is a commodity.
But if we allow ourselves to be commoditized, then all the customer has is price and availability.
And don’t get sucked into an apples to apples comparison.
Don’t get sucked into promoting yourself the way the competition promotes themselves.
Don’t share the same value, the same questions, the same communication style that your competitor share.
Because then you are just commoditizing yourself.
You are creating an apples to apples conversation between you and the customer.
And that’s not the way to close sales.
You need to create an apples to oranges conversation by standing out, by showing the customer that you bring new and unique value, that you have a different approach, and that you have a product that’s going to help them in different ways from everyone else in the market.
